Dinning and Meal Plans
Dining Service Options
The on-campus dining program has been designed with flexibility to meet the unique needs of each student.
At Willamette University, we believe dining service plays an important role in the wellness and sense of community that makes our campus unique. Meals are prepared from scratch using fresh ingredients — all in a socially responsible manner that benefits our community, our guests and our environment.
Dining and Commuter Plans
Students select their Dining Plan when they sign their housing agreement the academic year. Students who already signed up for a dining plan, will have that plan moved over from the previous plan to a comparable plan. All students living in a residence hall have a dining plan. Willamette offers dining plans based on the number of meals, either per week (10-19 plans) or per semester (commuter plans), and assumes one meal per meal period. All plans include Dining Flex Dollars. Flex Dollars are a value placed on your student ID card that can be used like a declining balance. One point equals $1 in value. The 19-Meal Plan allows you to enter Goudy Commons during any meal period. You also may opt to use your lunch, Monday-Friday, meal equivalency at Blitz Market for the daily entrée.
We also offer commuter plans to non-residential students, upperclassmen, and graduate students. Commuter plans are also available to faculty, staff, and CST students. The two commuter options include either 40-meal or 25-meal block plans with $250 or $150 Flex Dollars, respectively. So, students can have any 40 or 25 meals per semester at any time in Goudy Commons or a lunch, Monday-Friday, at Blitz Market. Dining Flex Dollars can be spent at Goudy Commons, Blitz Market or Rick’s Café.
Letter to the Parents
A LETTER FROM OUR GENERAL MANAGER
Campus dining is an integral part of the campus life experience. Various studies have shown that eating a well-balanced nutritious meal helps students succeed in the classroom. The food program at Willamette is cooked from scratch, including sauces, stocks, and soups. (Salsa, too!) provided by Bon Appétit Management Company, a pioneer in environmentally sound sourcing policies, we’ve developed programs addressing local purchasing, overuse of antibiotics, sustainable seafood, the food–climate change connection, humanely raised meat and eggs, and farmworkers’ rights. We’re grateful to have been recognized by many leading foundations, nonprofits, and industry associations for our work.
Does your student have a special dietary need? We’ve got them covered with plentiful vegan, vegetarian, and made-without-gluten-containing-ingredient options. If they can’t find what they are looking for, we encourage them to just ask one of our helpful managers for what they need.
In addition to saving time and money, being on a meal plan offers a sense of belonging and community. Sharing food is a perfect excuse to catch up with friends, and accidental encounters in the café are the spice of campus life. Our inviting dining spaces encourage lingering, and we regularly have interesting programs and events to keep things lively.
We look forward to and take great pride in serving your student. Please feel free to contact me by email or phone if I can answer any questions or if you have any suggestions or concerns.
